RHS Flower Show Cardiff 2015 Show Garden
The show garden ‘Nurture in Nature‘ was designed and built for the RHS Flower Show Cardiff 2015 by Shani Lawrence Garden Designs and was awarded a silver gilt medal. Part of the RHS “Greening Grey Britain” campaign and their theme “Simple Spaces; Amazing Places,” the brief was to create a garden for a family with young children who love the outdoors and wildlife.
Materials sourced from Wales included the timber for the den, the wildlife fence, and the serpentine seat as well as the secret black board and raised beds. The planting incorporated a mixture of native and non-native plants all with value for wildlife. Planting for pollinators was included as well as hibernation materials in the wildlife fence for invertebrates. In addition, a hedge was provided for birds. We also included a water feature for birds and also a bog area for amphibians. Furthermore, there was a hedgehog house, bird boxes, log piles and a compost heap. There was also a beautiful seating area, a concealed blackboard, raised beds for the children and a play den.
RHS Flower Show Hampton Court 2001 Show Garden
In 2001, Shani designed the show garden ‘The Princess and the Frog’ for Woodcote Green Nurseries Ltd (now Woodcote Green Garden Centre). The show garden was awarded Best Small Garden in Show and the Royal Horticultural Society Gold Medal. This was a romantic garden, designed for a couple with a formal symmetrical layout but with soft planting of reds, pinks, creams and whites. The show garden was designed to showcase the quality of the plants offered by Woodcote Green Nurseries as well as some of their products and materials. The show garden was constructed by the nursery and planted by Shani and staff from the nursery.
RHS Flower Show Hampton Court 2000 Show Garden
In 2000, Shani designed an award-winning show garden ‘Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder’ at the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show for Woodcote Green Nurseries. The garden was designed to showcase the plants of the nursery and explored the multitude of different design ideas that can be used in a small space, with a rural wildlife garden illustrated on one side and a contemporary town garden on the other. A yin-yang symbol separated each design. Shani Lawrence Garden Designs planted the garden along with staff from the nursery.
